Nonradial neutrino emission upon black hole formation in core collapse supernovae

نویسندگان

چکیده

Core-collapse supernovae resulting in black hole formation are expected to feature a precipitous decline neutrino luminosity. The authors provide considerable nuance this picture by considering non-radial emission both the spherically symmetric (Schwarzschild) and rotating (Kerr) cases. In each of these cases, they show that neutrinos affect luminosity cut-off shape interesting ways indicate rich domain for further theoretical observational exploration.

Black hole formation in core-collapse supernovae and time-of-flight measurements of the neutrino masses

In large stars that have exhausted their nuclear fuel, the stellar core collapses to a hot and dense protoneutron star that cools by the radiation of neutrinos and antineutrinos of all flavors. Depending on its final mass, this may become either a neutron star or a black hole. Black hole formation may be triggered by mass accretion or a change in the high-density equation of state. We consider ...

Shock Breakout in Core-collapse Supernovae and Its Neutrino Signature

We present results from dynamical models of core-collapse supernovae in one spatial dimension, employing a newly-developed Boltzmann neutrino radiation transport algorithm, coupled to Newtonian Lagrangean hydrodynamics and a consistent high-density nuclear equation of state. The transport method is multi-group, employs the Feautrier technique, uses the tangent-ray approach to resolve angles, is...

Neutrino-driven convection versus advection in core collapse supernovae

A toy model is analyzed in order to evaluate the linear stability of the gain region immediately behind a stalled accretion shock, after core bounce. This model demonstrates that a negative entropy gradient is not sufficient to warrant linear instability. The stability criterion is governed by the ratio χ of the advection time through the gain region divided by the local timescale of buoyancy. ...

Neutrino-driven Convection in Core-collapse Supernovae: High-resolution Simulations

We present results from high-resolution semiglobal simulations of neutrino-driven convection in core-collapse supernovae. We employ an idealized setup with parameterized neutrino heating/cooling and nuclear dissociation at the shock front. We study the internal dynamics of neutrino-driven convection and its role in redistributing energy and momentum through the gain region. We find that even if...
